I really did not care for this movie, which required me to spend so much time with a smug little sh*t. Part of this is because I saw it late enough that I’d already gotten some idea of what I was in for, but even when I first just saw the trailer I got an indicator of what Luke’s character was like. When I went back and looked at my reaction at the time, I compared it to The Aggression Scale, which I thought wimped out in trying to make a kid who should be disturbing too likeable. I guess at least this one doesn’t do that. All complaints aside, getting Peckover to participate was a very nice get and I liked those anecdotes about the spiders. I didn’t notice the Australian doors at the time, but I think it does help make the characters look smaller.

When Luke admitted that there was never a possibility of him letting Ashley go (I’m not sure if that’s due to her destroying the drugged bottle or not), it did make me wonder what his plan actually was. I’ll give the film credit for the well set-up final scene with the mom (who is unfortunately characterized in an unbelievably broad manner in the beginning of the film).
