    I liked The Leftovers enough that I’ll check out Watchmen eventually, but all the scholarly criticism 1619 has received makes that another story:

    The Running Man is a very silly movie, so it is odd talking about it being “prescient”. I do think it is the case the case that mass media often isn’t very informative, but that’s because consumers prioritize “new” info they can discuss around the watercooler rather than accurate/helpful info. Robin Hanson has written about how “news accuracy bonds” and prediction markets could increase the reliability of the information we consume, but like I said few are interested in that.
