Do you get weird reactions or interruptions doing this in a public place?

This wasn’t even on my radar to nominate, as I considered it so heavily in the sci-fi camp. Then again it was my first experience with censorship, with my parents editing a tape for us to watch that had all the bloody scenes cut.

I must be in the minority in not digging the “life will find a way” message. I love the spectacle of how the animals are presented and the tension of the film, but as I get older I keep imagining how in real life this could be a responsible project. I’ve been behind the scenes in a zoo where they handle large carnivores, and there are double or triple safety designs in place. No way they would let everything rest on a single electric fence.

We surprisingly didn’t get more than one or two little interruptions while there. One element may be that our microphones are visible, but not prominent. Most people probably thought we were just passionate nerds having a dialogue.

As for its place in a list of favorite “horror” I would understand someone challenging it and I would understand someone defending it. While I objectively think its more adventure than horror, I defend its placement based on the tropes of “creature features”, under which I think it fully applies.

As for your observation about modern zoos, I do agree. I feel like there’s a tremendous capacity for hubris any time someone seeks to harness or control the natural world, but there is a time, a place, and even a way to explore certain varieties of explorative thought responsibly and humbly.
