I’ve gotten into arguments about whether the original (and by far, best) Terminator is a horror movie. I say it isn’t, though it does have horror elements. Most of the people the Terminator kills are nobodies without a connection to our protagonist (whereas in a slasher or even Predator they’re part of the same peer group so the protagonist seems less special and more vulnerable). Reese arrives early on, and he’s faced & killed Terminators before. He tells Sarah “Come with me if you want to live”, because he thinks he can carry out his mission of protecting her, though it will be difficult. There are car chases, plenty of gunfire, and explosions. At the end Sarah has gone through her arc and his able to kill the Terminator by herself, even wounded, and that seems to be the end of it (I’ll leave out the sequel stupidly saying another was sent despite the facility being destroyed).

I happen to be one of those atheists who thinks there’s no basis for an objective morality once you discard God. But most people (including someone as risk-averse as myself) tend to behave in a conventional way anyways, because humans pick up on norms from their peers.
